vvd Overview
Article Contents:
1) What is vvd and how does it work?
vvd (pronounced vivid) is an immersive worldbuilding and storytelling toolkit, designed to be both a creation tool and a publishing platform. It helps you capture and structure your inspiration and ideas, while allowing you to connect things both through writing and through visual means - and, on top of that, also publish your content and share it with whoever you want.
The first two things you need to learn about are Worlds and Cards.
A World in vvd is basically a massive project folder. The name is not meant to be taken literally - you can create entire universes within one World. Inside each World you will find a workspace full of our worldbuilding and storytelling tools.
The most important part of the World are your Cards. As you will learn, all of the systems in vvd are interconnected, with Cards as the source of everything. They are the building blocks of your creation. Everything connects to cards, and cards connect to everything. While you build your world, and create your stories, it all links together and becomes a big ecosystem.
2) How do I navigate through?
On the top left side of your workspace, you will find a button shaped like the vvd logo. This button opens a thin sidebar which allows you to navigate between your Worlds. At the bottom of it you will find a cogwheel which gives you access to your Account Settings.
Next to the vvd logo, there is a button with your World's name. Clicking on it opens the Home Page. Clicking on the arrow next to it opens the World Info Panel.
On the right of the World name, there is a plus sign. Clicking it will open a tab. You can have multiple tabs. The "New Tab" allows you to search your World's contents and open whatever you want - be it your World Editor, a Wiki, Quill, or the Tools tab.
3) What are the main features?
🌍 World Editor
This is your core creation space. Your World tab is where your Cards live, as well as other documents. When we say "documents", we are talking not just about Cards, but also about all the other entity types that you can make using vvd's tools - Maps, Canvases, Relation Trees, Timelines, etc. You can organise your sidebar however you want it.
🔨 Tools
The Tools tab contains all the worldbuilding and storytelling tools that exist in vvd. Here you can see every tool that has been published, both by vvd and by other users, and then click on them and add them to your World's Tools Library. The Workshop allows users that have some software development knowledge to make their own tools. They can then either keep them for themselves or publish to make them available to the public.

🪁 Wikis
A Wiki is how you will share your content with friends, players, or anyone else you'd like. It contains all the stuff you've created, in a reader-friendly format. People can navigate your Wiki using the search bar, the sections on the top left, or by clicking links in the text of cards (or pins in maps). Your Wiki is not public by default.

🖋️ Quill
Quill is vvd's story writing tool. You can use it to write, edit, and publish the stories set in the world that you've built in the Editor.

4) What are the key terms to keep in mind?
Inside the World is a workspace. The Workspace contains the World Info panel, the Home Page, the Radio, the Clock, and the Feedback buttons. It is also split into, and therefore contains, Tabs. The World Editor, Tools, Wikis, and Quill are all their own Tabs, they host different parts of the vvd ecosystem. Inside Tabs are tools, which create documents. Documents can contain blocks. These blocks can also come from tools, or they can be their own thing.
Example: the World Editor Tab has Cards inside it. Cards can have text blocks and media blocks as default, but tools provide map blocks, canvas blocks, timeline blocks, relation tree blocks, etc.
