Relation Trees

How do the Relation Trees work?

To start a new Tree, go to the World screen, and click the button at the bottom of the sidebar on the left, or right click anywhere that's empty.

You can create multiple versions of the same Tree (for example, one for the past, or one for the future) by clicking the "Add Variant" button at the bottom of the screen.

When you create a new Tree, you'll have an empty node waiting for you. A node is what represents a character in the tree. Nodes can be linked to cards, and they'll show the card name and image. You can also have unlinked nodes, in which case you can set a name for them (and in the future, a picture too). There are two ways you can add new nodes: by using one of the arrows on the top, bottom, left, or right of an existing node, or through the "Add node" button on the menu at the bottom.

How do the connections work?

It's important to note that connections made through card properties won't automatically create links in a Tree, just like links in a Tree won't automatically create connections in the cards themselves or in the Graph. The two systems are separate. This is a deliberate choice to allow our users more freedom when creating Trees.

When you click on one of the arrows surrounding a node to add a new node through that connection, you'll be prompted to choose a relationship type, or click on "Skip for now" to create a line without a named relationship. You're also able to click + drag to manually connect a point on a node to another point on another node. Each relationship line has a junction point which works exactly like the ones on the edges of nodes.

If you want to edit a connection, you can click on the line itself, and choose a new relationship type. You'll also see if you click on them that at the end of each line there are two circles - you can click and drag these if you want to change the positioning of the connection (for example if it was at the bottom of a node and you wanted it to be on the side).

How can I customize my Relation Trees?

You can set up custom relationships (and associate an icon with them) when you add a new node through a connection or when you click on a connection line and edit the relationship. For now, these custom relationships will not be saved, so if you want to use them again you'll have to enter them in again. In the future, they will be saved within that specific Tree.

You can also edit connection lines to be solid, dashed, or dotted. More line customization will come in a future update.

You are able to free-draw and add text on the outside of the Tree itself (the Tree canvas).

Right click a node to mark it as deceased, or alive again. If you want to do this to a node that isn't linked to a card, you'll have to set up a name for it first.
