Quill Overview
Quill is our writing tool. It is built for our users to be able to write, edit, and publish their novels, short stories, fanfiction, etc.
This is the main Help Center article for Quill, giving you only a basic overview of it's functions. There will be links in the text to other pages where you can learn more.
Quill is out in Early Access as of the 12th of July, available to users on the Hobbyist and Pro subscription tiers. We're still collecting feedback and fixing bugs/adding new things, so we appreciate your understanding if something you've just tried to do doesn't go as intended - please let us know if you run into any issues or have any suggestions!
How does it work?
When you first go to Quill, you'll create a "New Story" - you can choose an image for the book cover from the Gallery or upload a new one, and you can customise the writing on the cover here too. Don't worry if you're not totally happy with this, you can always change it afterwards.
Inside your book, you will find your writing area. On the left of the workspace is the chapter list - click here to learn more about Chapters and Drafts. On the right side you will find a collapsible Panel containing many different types of blocks - cards, notes, moodboards, etc. For more information on the Side Panel and it's features, click here.
Similarly to how the World page works, in Quill you can also have multiple documents open at the same time (cards, drafts, maps, notes) so you can reference, edit, or add new information to them without interrupting your flow. You can also activate focus mode to get rid of distractions.
Entity Detection and Auto-Links are in Quill too. You can also manually link to cards by highlighting text or using @ and then the card name or alias. Another feature that is also present here is Revision History - each draft has it's own, so if you make a mistake you can reverse it through there or by using CTRL/CMD+Z
Clicking on the Audio button on the menu at the bottom will take you into Audio Mode, where you can select or upload sounds to play per paragraph or per chapter, as your reader goes through.
How do I share my story?
On the menu at the bottom, switch from "Write" to "Publish". Once in Publish Mode, you can preview how your story will look to your readers. You can then set the style your readers will see, export your content , or publish through vvd.
Publishing a story on Quill will give you a link that you can send to your readers. You can publish as many chapters as you want at a time.
To learn more about Publishing click here. There is also another important article explaining the Styling menu.
