AI

This article will explain vvd's AI policy. In short - vvd is built for human creativity, and we believe AI's place in the world should be only as a tool, not a replacement for people.

AI & vvd

  1. Our Thoughts On AI
  2. Our AI Tools
  3. Our Privacy Policy

1) What is vvd's stance on AI?

Artificial Intelligence is an extremely sensitive topic right now, and for good reason. While vvd has a pro-human point of view, without question, our stance on AI is more nuanced. There's an important distinction that needs to be made between using AI to generate images and text, and using AI as a tool. While the first aims to replace human imagination and skill, as it allows anyone with access to it to generate images and text regardless of their own skill, the latter offers a solution for optimising workflows that stifle creativity and drown it under slow and repetitive tasks.

The team behind vvd is made of writers, artists, and creators, so we know all too well the consequences that generative AI is having on the industry. So we promise:

  • We will NEVER allow AI to train using the content you have created on the website.
  • We use over 10% of our revenue to hire human artists. All the art you see on vvd, from the landing page to the public gallery, was all commissioned/licensed from real artists.
  • We have also committed 1% of all our revenue to remove carbon from the atmosphere.

2) What kind of AI Assistance does vvd have?

The AI present in vvd is optional to use, and not generative. As mentioned above, our philosophy is that AI can never replace human creativity, but it can be a useful tool - so if you choose to use the Ai-powered tools we offer, they will only ever organize and help structure your world, and will never generate ideas for it.

There are two AI-powered tools in vvd at the moment:

  • Guided Templates

These help you flow your thoughts into a card, and then organize your writing into a neater structure when you're done.

  • Entity Detection

It detects potential new cards on your text and highlights them for you (things like places, characters, etc).

You can turn these off in your World Info panel, in the "Preferences" section

3) Do the Terms Of Service or Privacy Policy mention AI?

Our Privacy Policy has the following paragraph under point 12 - "AI Assist":

vvd offers optional AI-powered tools to help organize your world-building. When you use these features:

  • Your content may be processed by third-party providers to deliver the feature
  • We don't use your creative content to train any models
  • All content is subject to the same policies whether AI-assisted or not
  • You retain full ownership of everything you create
