Card Types & Templates

What are Card Types?

Card types (and subtypes) are a key organisational feature in vvd.

They can be anything, from characters, locations, events, etc. In general, they are structured with a large category as the parent type, and smaller divisions of that category as subtypes - for example the "Locations" type has "Kingdom" and "City" as it's subtypes.

If you go to the Wiki screen, you'll notice that it shows your readers the cards organised by types, with subtypes for extra layers of organisation.

When you're adding a Property to a card, most of the available options are the types and subtypes that have been set up on that workspace. Click here for more information on Properties.

How can I customize them?

When you create a new World, you'll have some default types and subtypes already there, to help you get started. But these are only suggestions, and you do not have to use them or even keep them if you don't want or need them.

Go to your World Info panel. There you will find the "Types" menu. In the Types menu, you can edit the current types/subtypes by deleting, renaming, re-organising (just drag them up and down) and also picking an icon for each one.

You can also set up different aspects of the types which will affect the cards that have them:

  • Adding Properties here will mean that every new card will have those Properties - you can sync the changes to affect pre-existing cards too.
  • You can also choose which blocks new cards of that type will start with.
  • You can choose the default orientation for the card picture (or for it to have no picture at all)
